Après Ski is one of the quintessential things to do on a ski trip. City folk look forward to long days on the slopes, delicious chalet food, warm log fires, hot tubs and Après. Chamonix has a certain buzz all year round but during the winter season between 5 and 7pm, Chamonix’s bars really shine!
The beauty of Après in Chamonix is the variety, there are bars suited to more mature couples and groups of friends, hip places for young professionals and loud no fuss pubs for seasonaires and party people.
Chambre Neuf 272 Avenue Michel Croz Chamonix 74400 France
Chambre Neuf is located in the centre of town, just across from the SNCF station. During the day and after Après, one can enjoy a delicious meal at this café/bar/restaurant but come Après, the place is packed! Full of European skiers and boarders discussing their day on the mountain this is a great place to go for young professionals or anybody looking for a traditional French après environment. You can get beer, wine or cocktails at Chambre Neuf.
Elevation 1904 259 Avenue Michel Croz, 74400 Chamonix, France
Elevation 1904 is across the road from Chambre Neuf so provides a great area to hop from one to the other. Elevation is also a café and restaurant and has a late licence on weekends. Elevation is full of locals who want a nice place to unwind and warm up after freezing on the slopes all day. The bar is not big but the party often spills out onto the street and marques are provided for warmth and to keep people off the road!! Elevation is a great place to try Menthe, translated directly to ‘mint’, an alcoholic shot that is sure to clear the sinuses!!!
Monkey 81 Place Edmond Desailloud, 74400 Chamonix, France
Monkey Bar is siuated in the heart of Cham Sud so is consequently in the heart of Chamonix’s seasonaire population. Cham Sud is full of over crowded studio apartments housing Chamonix’s young, backpacking, heavy drinking, hard partying expat community. With one main quad surrounded by endless apartment blocks you are sure to run into the same faces each and every day. Monkey Bar serve awesome burgers and no fuss meals and have a 15 minute power happy hour between 4.15pm and 4.30pm where you get a pint of Kronenbourg for €1.50!! If you are young, fun and want an awesome night out that includes fire shots, dancing on the bar and beer bongs this is definitely the place to be. Monkey often host quiz nights with various prizes and have live music or DJs.
Munster 27 Place Edmond Desailloud, 74400 Chamonix, France
Munster is also located in the quad in Cham Sud and is just across from Monkey. As an Irish bar, there is a warm feeling (Perhaps from the fire!?), big screens playing football, live music and of course, Guinness on tap.
The Cap Horn 74 Rue des Moulins, 74400 Chamonix, France
The Cap Horn draws a more sophisticated and mature crowd and provides a great environment to relax with a drink, good company and assurance nobody will be dancing on the table or using a beer bong at the bar. They serve a wide array of top shelf liquors and if you end up staying a while have a wonderful fine dining restaurant.
MBC 350 route de bouchet, 74400 Chamonix, France
Located just outside town en route to Argentiere, the MBC is a Canadian Micro brewery serving three main brews. The ambience, the big barrels of beer, the Canadian hospitality and the chicken wing specials make the MBC an awesome choice for a laid back Après.
The Vert 964 Route des Gaillands, 74400 Chamonix, France
Whilst its slightly out of the centre of Chamonix, The Vert hotel is packed on a Friday night and has a cult following with various groups of locals. The relaxed friendly barman Jamie and shuttle bus driver Ryan make the Vert an awesome Friday night. There is a restaurant as well as a bar menu and if you’re lucky there are sometimes free chicken wings at the bar. The Vert throw awesome parties with international DJs and also host various events for Seasonaries such as an Australia Day Party, a Waitangi day party, and beginning and end of season celebrations. Keep your eye on their Facebook page for information on the free shuttles to and from town!
