After last weekend’s musical celebrations for Fete De La Musique a different kind of energy will fill the Town this Weekend with the Mont Blanc Marathon, the Skyrunning Championships and Chamonix Mountain Festival all welcoming Summer to the Valley.
June brought us some fantastically hot weather, as well as the occasional brief thunderstorm to wake us all up. Over the last few weeks of unexpectedly dry conditions, the trails have become accessible for Mountain bikers, Hikers, Climbers and sightseers. Whilst refuges, cafés, bars and restaurants have opened there doors and put out there tables. The World Cup has brought the best out of Chamonix’s international community, with the long evenings being passed away in the Sun and splendour of an Alpine spring.
Looking Forward to July, the pulse on the town starts to speed up again with lots of events filling the calendar. In our previous post we had a rundown of the various races being run over the 27th-28th of June for the Marathon and Skyrunning events. This will be great spectating for any runners or endurance racing fans. Please read “Marathon Weekend” for more information.
If mountaineering is more your cup of tea then Chamonix Mountain Festival has a full week of workshops, presentations and Gear testing lined up from Saturday the 28th till Saturday the 5th of July. Try out the latest climbing and mountaineering equipment under the supervision of knowledgeable staff, near the Aiguille du Midi lift station In Chamonix Sud on the first two days. Then get your teeth stuck in to Crevasse rescue workshops and presentations during the rest of the 7 day festival. It’s a great build up to the upcoming speed climbing championships that will be held in the Town centre from the 9th to the 12th of July.
With a busy start to the month and no sign of slowing up it is well worth a visit to the Chamonix valley to soak in some of the true mountain ambience. Be sure to check our website for news on upcoming events, gatherings and happenings at the base of Mont Blanc.
