Getting to Chamonix

Cheap flights and short transfers have made the Alps more accessible than ever. Whether it’s a short ski break or long term change of scenery, travelling to Chamonix needn’t be a chore. With a wide selection of flights to Geneva and Lyon provided by a range of Airlines you could be in the mountains just hours after leaving the UK.

As a Chamonix resident I make the journey back to the South of England several times a year and find it remarkable how quick and easy it is to travel back and forth. Catching an early flight at say nine o’clock from Gatwick airport I know that I can be back in Chamonix by the mid-afternoon. I would recommend using Geneva as your flight destination just because of the short distance from the Airport to the Valley, taking just over one hour. But it’s not the only option, There are good rail links between Geneva station and Zurich, Lyon and Bern if you’re planning to add a visit to Mont Blanc onto your travel itinerary. Alternatively you could fly to Lyon the transfer time is longer but depending on where you live it might give you more flexibility when booking flights.

Transfer options from Geneva Airport to Chamonix such as by Train

There are two types of transfer. Shared transfers are the cheaper option if you are travelling on your own or in a small group. There a great way to keep travel costs down but might mean you are waiting for passengers on different flights. We aim to keep the wait to a one hour maximum. Private Transfers will get you straight to your destination with drivers meeting you at arrivals and great if you’re traveling with children or in a larger group of up to 8 passengers.
Geneva has direct flights to Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Manchester, Liverpool, Dublin, Bristol and London whilst Lyon serves Birmingham, Bristol, London and Manchester. Both these airports have low cost and more expensive airlines flying back and forth. It’s always a good idea to see how much the additional ski bags and luggage will cost when booking with low cost airlines as it may work out more affordable to go with an airline which gives you better luggage allowances.
